What is Professional Development?
According to the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), Professional Development is understood as Continuous Professional Learning (CPL). It is described as an ongoing process that helps Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) increase their knowledge and skills to ensure quality professional practice throughout their careers. Engaging in professional learning is considered: Integral to professionalism and leadership in the field, A way to demonstrate to employers, families, and to communities that RECEs belong to a distinct profession that values ongoing learning.
What counts as professional learning?
According to the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), professional learning is defined broadly and is not limited to formal courses. Under the Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) Program, activities that count as professional learning include:
